Fire-door compliance · UK
The fire-door record
that can't be faked.
Who made every door, what's inside it, who is responsible for it now, and every check it has ever had. Each door carries a cryptographic tag that cannot be cloned — so when someone says they inspected a door, we can prove they were standing at it.
A demo tag in the post and a demo building to put it in. No call required.
Why now
The law has already
changed.
This isn't coming. It landed in 2023, and the evidence most buildings hold would not survive being asked for.
- Quarterly communal door checks, annual flat-entrance checks
- Regulation 10 checks apply above 11 metres
- Resident fire-door information at any height, re-issued every 12 months
- The Building Safety Act golden thread — for the life of the building
- The 2029 test-evidence transition, already counting down
The problem
Today's evidence chain is
Word documents and photo dumps.
Owners can't stitch it together
The certificate is with the manufacturer, the photographs are on a contractor's phone, and the schedule is a spreadsheet nobody has opened since handover.
Checks that prove nothing
A signature on a form is not evidence that anyone stood at the door. Ask how you would prove it, and there is usually no answer.
Residents have nowhere to go
A door that won't latch gets mentioned to a caretaker and forgotten. Nothing reaches the record, so nothing gets fixed.
The tag
30mm of proof,
fixed to the leaf.
A cryptographic tag the size of a ten-pence piece. Every tap produces a fresh signature that only that individual tag can generate, checked by our servers before anything is written to the record.
A QR code or an ordinary contactless tag can be copied with a phone. If your tag can be copied, your golden thread can be faked. Copy ours and the copy is silent — there is nothing behind it to sign the tap.
- Signed by the tag itself, not by the phone
- A signature is never valid twice
- Every tap recorded, genuine or not
The golden thread
One thread,
every hand on the door.
A building has one custodian at a time, and every handover is recorded. Whoever is not the current custodian cannot write to the record — and can still see everything they were responsible for.
- ManufacturedThe tag is registered on your line. Certification and O&M attached at birth.
- InstalledThe installer taps in at the door, captures photographs and signs the installation off against their own competency record.
- InspectedQuarterly and annual checks, tap-verified at the door. Presence proven, not claimed.
- WitnessedResidents tap the door or ring the building's own phone number to report a problem. Fire services get read-only statutory access.
- EvidencedA golden-thread export a regulator accepts — one door or a whole estate.
The hardware
Minutes a door.
Nothing drilled, nothing voided.
A tamper-evident tag, applied to the leaf. No recess, no fixings, no alteration to a fire door you have paid to have certified.
It can't be moved
The antenna is split across two layers. Peeling the tag tears it and kills it for good — it cannot be lifted off one door and put on another.
It fails loudly
A dead or missing tag fails its next check and flags the door automatically. Removing the evidence is itself recorded as evidence.
It fits the estate you have
No production line and no remedial programme required. Tag the doors you already have, in the order you choose, starting with one block.
Who it's for
Everyone who touches the door
gets something out of it.
Your certification travels with the doorset instead of dying at the gate. Build the O&M pack once, hand the building over, and keep the evidence that your product was fitted correctly.
A work queue, a tap at each door, photographs captured on the spot, and your competency on the record — so the quality of your work is provable later.
One dashboard that answers what was checked, what was missed, what's overdue and who held the building on any given day. The record of your compliance, ready before it's asked for.
Take on a building, do the work, prove attendance without arguing about it, and hand it back cleanly when the contract ends.
Tap the door with a phone, or ring the number on it. Every building gets its own line, included — describe the problem in your own words and it is logged against that exact door, anonymously, day or night.
Read-only access to the doors before entering the building, and an export that verifies itself rather than asking to be trusted.
Evidence
Proof a regulator can verify,
not just read.
Tamper-evident by construction
Every entry carries a fingerprint covering the entry before it. Alter or back-date anything and the chain breaks visibly.
It proves itself offline
Export the thread as one file. It opens with no internet and no account, re-hashes every certificate and photograph inside it, and says whether anything has changed since we issued it.
Your copy, on your schedule
We email you a complete, readable copy of your record as often as you like. If we vanished tomorrow you would still hold your evidence, and it would still verify.
Your data in your own tools
A read-only API with keys you issue and revoke. Pull your doors, checks and defects straight into Power BI or whatever you already report from. It's your data.
Start
Put a tag on a door
and see what happens.
Tell us who you are and we'll post you a demo tag, with a demo building already set up and waiting for it. Stick it on any door — it doesn't have to be a fire door — then run the whole thing yourself in about ten minutes.
- Tap it with your phone. The page tells you the tag is genuine and was verified just now.
- Tap a photograph of the same tag. Nothing happens — there is nothing behind it to sign.
- Run a check against the door, and watch the proof that you were standing at it go on the record.
- Export the building and open the file with your internet switched off. It re-checks itself in front of you.
Your demo building is a sandbox with its own tags. It touches nothing real, and you can throw it away.
Nobody will ring you off the back of this. If you'd like to talk it through, the invitation runs the other way — hello@doortrack.uk, and a real person answers.
Priced per doorset with the tags included, so the cost sits with the doors rather than with seats or logins. Estates differ, though — if yours has something awkward about it, tell us and we'll work it out with you. Already using DoorTrack? Sign in.
Questions we get asked
How is this different from a QR code or an ordinary contactless tag?
Both can be photographed or copied with a phone, which means an inspection can be recorded from the car park. Our tags produce a fresh cryptographic signature on every tap that only that individual tag can generate, and a signature is never valid twice. If your tag can be copied, your golden thread can be faked.
What do I actually get in a starter pack?
A demo tag in the post, sign-in details for a demo building that is already set up and waiting for it, and a short guide. Stick the tag on any door, tap it, run a check against it and export the record — the whole loop, about ten minutes, nothing to install. The demo building is a sandbox: it isn't connected to any real building, and you can throw it away when you're done.
Can I put the demo tag on a real fire door?
Please don't, and we make it hard to do by accident. Demo tags are printed differently and belong only to your sandbox, so one can never be mistaken for a live tag or quietly end up in a real building's record. When you're ready for real doors we send the proper ones.
Does fitting a tag affect a door's certification?
No. The tag is applied to the face of the leaf. Nothing is drilled, recessed or cut, and no part of the doorset is altered.
What happens if somebody removes a tag?
The antenna is split across two layers, so peeling the tag destroys it — it cannot be moved to another door. A missing or dead tag fails its next check and flags the door automatically, so removing the evidence becomes evidence.
Do residents need an app?
No. They tap the door with any modern phone and a page opens, or they ring the building's own phone number, which is included. They describe the problem in their own words and it is logged against that exact door. No account, no download, and they can stay anonymous.
What happens to our record if we stop using DoorTrack?
You keep it. We email you a complete, readable copy of your record on whatever schedule you choose, and there's a read-only API you can pull everything through at any time. The export opens with no internet and no account, and re-checks itself, so it still stands up as evidence after you have left.
Can we get the data into our own reporting?
Yes. A read-only API with keys you issue and revoke lets you pull doors, checks, defects and due dates into Power BI or any other tool you already report from.
Who can see our buildings?
A building has one custodian at a time. Whoever is not the current custodian cannot write to it, and a handover is recorded rather than assumed. Fire services and enforcing authorities get read-only access to what they need.
We have thousands of doors. Where do we start?
One block. Tagging is minutes a door and needs no production line or remedial programme, so an estate can be brought on in the order that suits your programme rather than all at once.
The only fire-door record a coroner, an insurer and a fire officer would all accept.
No forms to get past and no calendar links. Just hello@doortrack.uk, whenever it suits you.
